Details: Light is a common metaphor for the best in people. Love, truth, inspiration, courage, determination, etc, etc, etc. We all carry some amount of light within us and sometimes it takes the starting spark of another before we can really shine. I have had a very blessed life when it comes to this. From the time I was a small child watching Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind to now, I have received small bits of light that ignite great bursts of inspiration in myself that not only make me want to become better, but to be the kind of person who can inspire others in the same way. Because any of the material or immaterial things we could possibly give others to make their lives better or inspire them, it all stems from us containing the good will within ourselves in the first place. So if I was unfettered by logistics, money, etc, I would give this light- and all that it represents to everyone I knew. Because if I as one person can inspire a small group of people, and those people go on to spread more light to others, eventually and hopefully it'll fill the whole world and make it a better place and everyone will be a little happier and live a little better and love a little more.

Art and creative endeavors have the capability to form and direct the society we live in. Art is one of the most influential presences in our lives and what kind you surround yourself in can determine the type of light you carry within you. As an artist, I have spent- and continue to spend time gleaning tiny sparks of light and inspiration from other artists brave enough to stand out and put forth their ideals. When we take in those pieces of light, they combine, mix with our souls and then pour forth as a light source of its own. We can keep these lights to ourselves and try to comfort ourselves with the solitary glow, or we can send it out into the world to others. With some people it might not catch and the light might be rejected, but if even one other person takes in this light and makes it their own, the world will be a brighter place for it. And the great thing about light is that once it catches in your soul, it remains with you and continues to produce more.

Honestly, I have pages and pages more to say on the subject, but this is the gist of it all. Really kind of hoping it doesn't sound really corny, though I know it's idealistic. In any case, I hope you enjoy this. When I first read the challenge, I tried a lot of ways to make a single image narrative illustration for this concept, but I couldn't really think of one I liked that REALLY told the story I wanted to tell. So... like most things that I do that are autobiographical, I made a comic. I decided against having any dialogue, because I think that it would have detracted from the story instead of adding to it, especially when anything that could be said could be shown much more effectively. I kept it monotone for the most part in order to keep the Light as the main focus of the piece. I also tried to make the older person at the beginning androgynous and non-specific, representing any number of people who've inspired me.
